For years, the school experienced a steady decline in female enrolment, largely due to the absence of safe and affordable accommodation. Many girls were forced to rent in nearby communities, exposing them to unsafe living conditions and increasing their vulnerability to social challenges, including early and child marriages. This situation contributed to high dropout rates and limited access to continuous education for many learners.
In response to these challenges, Makonde RDC initiated the construction of a dedicated girls’ hostel as a sustainable intervention to improve retention and provide a secure learning environment.
